Happy new year and all that!
Hi folks,
I don’t know what a happy new year post is to be but let’s talk about that…. for 2023 I am looking back on 2022 and all we did…
dressed up the sauna a bit with new things like fancy baskets and whatnot for firewood and newspaper,
learned how to replace axe heads and sharpen and oil axe heads that were looking pretty ragged and rusty,
learned a lot about flooding too and how much we would have to pay to be be perfect and get roads improved for low spots and that sticky clay rising up through the gravel,
learned a lot about chain saw chains and lots of broken chains and bars and replacement costs,
saw the Geo Dome make it through its first year and how the parachute dome top did (it lasted one season!),
loved hosting a few groups including one that had a wedding in Gimli,
hosted 2 Herbal medicine retreats and saw the sailboat bell tent and trailers get used and loved,
saw so many mosquitoes to make you run screaming,
added a few new trees, a couple paper birch we planted to see how they do,
worked on more planting in the medicine garden,
worked on the prospector tent set up and structure (things I think about way too much!),
got to see how it worked out when we added electricity (no longer completely off grid!) to the prospector tent and outdoor kitchen,
made a few log benches by chain saw (that was rewarding!),
fixing things and learned using roof tar, sheet metal snips and how to roof shingle,
lots of carpentry, building ladders, started interior work on the Hermitage,
lots of painting (Clara’s hobbit hut) and painted the school bus, old sailboat and the Hermitage,
passed my aboriculture course and exam through the U of M (super helpful!),
made big progress in my online herbalism certificate,
and so much firewood and tree cutting!
and the list goes on and on… lol.
It’s good to look at the past and see how the year went, we do a lot in a year! It’s a convenient break to take measure of what you did (and didn’t do) and even the things you no longer want to do that you thought you wanted to do lol :).
Maybe that’s next, what there still is to do. Ah the journey….
